| Details: Matisyahu blends infectious melodies and intricate production with classic messages of hope, peace and understanding to create a sound that is undeniably his own. Few artists make an impact as complete as the one he made with his Top 40 crossover hit "King Without a Crown." Here was a true original, the song announced -- a Hasidic Jewish musician from New York City singing reggae songs about his religious devotion. Fans responded, driving Youth, Matisyahu's Grammy-nominated 2006 studio disc, to the top spot on Billboard's reggae albums chart. This annual international event is inspired by the life and work of Wall Street Journal journalist and classical violinist Daniel Pearl who was kidnapped and murdered in Pakistan in 2002 and who would have celebrated his 46th birthday on October 10, 2009.

Details: Iran’s master musician/composer Kayhan Kalhor has been instrumental in popularizing Persian music in the West through his solo concerts and work with Masters of Persian Music, Yo-Yo Ma's Silk Road Project, the Ghazal Ensemble, and Brooklyn Rider. In this program, he performs new improvisations for kamancheh (spike fiddle) and setar, a long-necked fretted lute that he will play solo in New York for the first time.
